Additionally, with the current pandemic and voluntary or mandated closings, we would like to address some language found in nearly all business insurance policies as adopted by ISO, the Insurance Services Organization.
First, to trigger income protection there must be a suspension in operations due to a “direct physical loss of or damage to property at premises which are described in the Declarations.” Most policies also contain an exclusion for Virus or Bacteria stating “We will not pay for loss or damage caused by or resulting from any virus, bacterium or other microorganism that induces or is capable of inducing physical distress, illness or disease” and applies to all coverage parts of the policy including income protection.
We have been advised that the individual insurance carriers are working with ISO and legal counsel to determine what, if any, coverage could be afforded to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. However based on the above language and our discussions with the insurance carriers, it is our assessment that income loss will not be provided. We will be sure to communicate any changes or updates as we are notified. In the meantime, if your business suffers a documented loss of income as related to the virus and you still wish to submit a claim, please contact our office.
Does My Business Policy Cover Deliveries?
As a result of the COVID-19 mandates, many businesses are now offering delivery services that may not have been contemplated in the past. If you are now offering delivery or have altered your scope of operations during this crisis, please contact us at info@dunninsurance.net with details of your delivery operations.
Please also check our website and Facebook page for further updates as they become available.
Thank you,
